Our Wheatsheaf Story
Learn about the history and our ethos at The Wheatsheaf Bingham.
A Little History
Grade II listed and dating back to 1779, The Wheatsheaf carries the kind of character that settles into the walls — flagstone floors warming by log fires, a traditional bar with low beams, and the gentle feeling of a place that’s been part of Bingham’s story for centuries. Behind the bar, the former stables now hold our elegant restaurant, complete with double-height beamed ceilings, chandeliers, polished dark wood floors and soft leather booth seating. Once home to seventy horses during the First World War, it now welcomes couples, families and groups for everything from intimate dinners to larger celebrations. We serve evening dining seven nights a week, with lunch on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Upstairs, our first-floor private dining room offers another beautiful space — beamed ceilings, chandeliers, and a quiet sense of occasion — ideal for events, gatherings and meetings. Just above that, five luxury guest rooms complete the building’s modern comforts.
We’re a family-run freehouse, managed and part-owned by us, David Jex and Amanii Brittan, and every product we serve is chosen personally. When we first walked into what was then known as The Bingham, we knew instantly we wanted to restore its original name, The Wheatsheaf, and breathe new life into the building. With the backing of the local community, we reopened the doors in August 2016 — just a month after first stepping inside.
